SPARKcon live blog #2

Art is in the eye of the beholder.  It can occur in any space or venue, but is usually thought of as a static form.  To turn this idea on its head, there are several art installations created and exhibited in moving PODS...

Apparently, making art in a moving Pod is a depressing undertaking, because 4 of the 5 installations are thought provoking, a little disquieting, and a bit disturbing.  Unfortunately, the iPhone does not do these pieces justice.
This installation consisted of a cellophane casting of a person - nothing on the inside.  I wonder what the message is here??? I very much liked the composition of this piece.

This installation, besides displaying hand woven swaths of cloth, also included a "Weaver of Note" who was obscured in the rear of the exhibit spinning thread at a spindle - as if she were one of the three fates from Greek mythology. Very effective.

A seemingly happy installation.  I got nothing...

Untitled piece reminiscent of the gallows. I found the piles of sand piled beneath the bags to be a reminder of those pesky sands of time.

This is probably the most disturbing, but possibly my favorite of the Pod installations.  The paper mache figures are rough hewn representations of the homeless.  The walls are covered with for sale signs and pictures of suburban homes.  Along the back of the installation is a sign asking "How would they judge you?"  A very moving piece. Quite lovely and thought provoking.
